Tahiti, October 16, 2024 – The Business Club Against Cancer and the League Against Cancer are carrying out various actions throughout the month of October. Stands are set up at the Vaima center twice a week, monuments lit in pink on Friday evening. This Wednesday noon, Miss Tahiti and her runners-up came for a photo shoot.

Every Wednesday and Saturday of this month of October, the Club of companies against cancer with the League against cancer hold a stand at the Vaima center (Plazza haute), in addition on Friday evening they are at the initiative of a original operation: monuments are lit in pink (see box). This helps to gain visibility but also raise public awareness of the cause. Miss Tahiti and her two runners-up visited this Wednesday afternoon, demonstrating their commitment to the fight against the disease.

The Business Club Against Cancer was born at the beginning of 2023. This club wants to mark the involvement of businesses in the fight against the disease as part of their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) commitment. Carjustifies Olivier Kressmann, vice-president of the club, CSR is not only the environment, it is also the health of employees.”

30 companies, 6,900 employees

The creation of the Club, which today has 30 companies for 6,900 employees, contributes to employee information and promotes screening. For example, women can go for their mammogram during their work time. The cure of cancers in general, and breast cancer in particular, is closely linked to early detection. Any approach that raises awareness and encourages early diagnosis therefore makes perfect sense. “Remember that in Polynesia, the cure rate for breast cancer is 55%, compared to 88% in mainland due to diagnostic delays”, says Olivier Kressmann.

On the stands, the public was able to find advice and goodies, and they were able to participate in the creation of a collective wall of encouragement for all women and their families who have had or continue to fight against the disease.
