An entire building dedicated to equality issues and open to all. It’s a project that was dreamed of 10 years ago by associations from the Women’s Network and which is coming to fruition. This unique place will open in Geneva in 2027 in the Plainpalais district. This is the Collective project, supported by the foundation for gender equality.

After occupying the building for 20 months, La Collective is closing its doors this month while the work is carried out. What will we find on site when we reopen? Anne-Céline Machet director of the FEG, The Foundation for Gender Equality, which is leading this project.

A daycare center, a café-restaurant, spaces dedicated to women’s and feminist associations, and a library will be created in this building. But also relay housing for single women or with children as well as housing for seniors and studios for students. A health and digital space are also planned. This place is unique in Switzerland, explains Anne-Céline Machet.

The place will be open to the city. This is why major transformations will be necessary to the building. Details from Daniela Liengme, from the Liengme Mechkat architects office, which is leading the project.

Work will begin next week for an opening in 2027, end of 2026, the Foundation even hopes.
