Living with the virus. This is what all French people have been working on since 2020. And for some, especially the most vulnerable, vaccination against Covid-19 is an important solution to protect themselves.
The virus, carried by the JN.1 variant (majority), continues to circulate actively in France in recent weeks. To protect vulnerable people, but not only that, Health Insurance is launching a vaccination campaign on Tuesday October 15, 2024. Concurrent campaign with that for the flu.
Who is affected?
The High Authority of Health (HAS) recommends vaccinating people at risk of serious illness.
- People aged 65 and over;
- People (including infants from 6 months of age, children, adolescents and adults) with comorbidities having a higher risk of a serious form of the disease (complicated arterial hypertension, cardiac, vascular, hepatic, renal, pulmonary problems, diabetes, obesity, cancers, transplant recipients, people with Down syndrome or psychiatric disorders or dementia);
- Immunocompromised people;
- Pregnant women;
- Residents in accommodation establishments for dependent elderly people (Ehpad) and long-term care units (USLD);
- People at very high risk of serious illness according to each individual medical situation and as part of a decision shared with the healthcare teams;
- People living around or in regular contact with immunocompromised or vulnerable people, including professionals in the health and medico-social sectors.
Furthermore, the HAS recommends this same vaccination to students and professionals in the health sectors (working in establishments or self-employed), to students and professionals in the rescue and fire services (in particular professional and volunteer firefighters) or to professionals in regular contact with immunocompromised or vulnerable people.
Vaccination is 100% support.
What if we are not on the list?
If you wish to be vaccinated, but you are not one of the people at risk of a serious form, it is still possible to be vaccinated free of charge under the same conditions.
Here are the places where it is possible to get vaccinated
To get vaccinated, it is possible to go to several places. However, some people, generally young children, cannot be vaccinated by certain health professionals.
- Doctor: can prescribe and administer the vaccine to any person;
- Nurse: can prescribe and administer the vaccine to any person aged 5 and over, whether or not targeted by the recommendations;
