The Ghana Health Services (GHS) on Thursday confirmed the first case of Mpox in the country.

According to a GHS statement released on Thursday, the case involved a 15-year-old male living in Bia West district of the North West region.

He explained that test results from the National Public Health and Reference Laboratory (NPHRL) confirmed the disease on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, after the patient presented with a history of rash, fever and general body pain. at the hospital.

“The suspected case was isolated in accordance with Mpox management protocols. Twenty-five contacts of the case have been identified and are currently being monitored. The patient has since been released and is in stable condition,” the statement said.

Health officials said the patient had not traveled in the past 21 days and had not had sex with a potentially infectious person in that time.

Regional and district health directorates have activated public health emergency management systems and response measures to control the possible spread and transmission of the disease.

It may be recalled that a total of 230 suspected Mpox cases have been reported from 88 districts across the country’s 16 regions so far this year.
