Many events are organized in the department for Pink October. The hospital center is organizing Women’s Health Day on October 9.

On Wednesday October 9, the Auch hospital center is organizing Women’s Health Day, with the CPAM, the Gers committee for the fight against cancer and the Department.

From 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., several professionals will welcome the public in the reception hall. The regional cancer screening coordination center will hold a self-examination awareness stand. Participants will thus be able to learn simple gestures to begin self-examination of palpation.

Health professionals will also offer an introduction to physical activity and give dietary advice. A tobacco specialist will be present to give personalized advice on quitting smoking and improving your health.

INTERVIEW. Pink October: “The need for awareness is more significant than before”, warns the president of the Gers Cancer League

The Cancer League will be present to provide information on the various services and support available to patients and their loved ones.

Health insurance will also participate in this day to inform patients about their health rights.

“There is still a lot of work to do”

In the Gers department, 6 out of 10 women have their mammogram and barely a third of them participate in colorectal cancer screening. Concerning cervical cancer screening, the participation rate will be around 75% in 2023. “It is possible to do better, to reach everyone. We have to improve,” considers Dr Véronique Lejeune, head of the gynecology-obstetrics center at Auch hospital.

The president of the League Against Cancer Nadia Benoît also regretted “that one in two people still do not understand the risks of cancer. There is still a lot of work to do, particularly with regard to the most vulnerable.”

Screening for uterine, breast and colorectal cancers by professionals will also be carried out during this Women’s Health Day, by appointment. All the appointments, namely fifty, were booked in less than three days.
