Several cases of dengue fever were reported in Paofai during the month of September. The environmental health center of the Health Directorate will carry out treatments between the Gueho easement and the Buillard easement in Paofai on October 3 and 8.

Dengue fever has been circulating since June 2023. Moorea, Fariipiti, Papeete, Mahina, several municipalities have been affected. In February 2024, the disease reached the islands with a first case being detected in Rangiroa then others in Ua Huka. Health authorities are monitoring the situation closely.

This Wednesday, October 2, the health department informs that a cluster has formed in Paofai, in the capital. Interventions and “treatments” will be carried out by the Environmental Health Center of the Health Directorate “between the Gueho easement and the Buillard easement in Paofai on Thursday October 3 and Tuesday October 8, 2024 from 5:30 a.m..”

As a reminder, in order to prevent the spread of the disease, it is recommended that the entire population:

  • To consult a doctor if dengue fever is suspected (high fever, body aches).
  • To get rid of mosquito breeding grounds around your home and at work.
  • To protect yourself from bites by applying skin repellents, insecticides, diffusers.

Elsewhere in the world, dengue strikes fatally. On the American continent, for example, the number of cases reached records, causing the death of a thousand people. The disease tends to spread more easily because of warming and the El Niño climatic phenomenon, warned the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
