HEALTH. What is diabetes? Can you lead a normal life when diagnosed with diabetes? What are the types of diabetes? To find out a little more about this disease which affects 1.2 million people in Quebec, the organization Les Diabétiques de la Haute-Yamaska ​​invites the general public to an awareness and demystification activity on Saturday, October 26.

Presented at the Hôtel Castel de -Granby, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., this information meeting will mark Diabetes Awareness Month (November). For this meeting, different speakers and health professionals will occupy booths to discuss topics related to this chronic illness: healthy lifestyle habits, prevention, care, diet.

Furthermore, during this afternoon, the public will be able to attend three conferences led by three specialist doctors. First, Dr. André Carpentier (endocrinologist) will talk about diabetes research at the University of Sherbrooke Hospital Research Center. We will then discuss the role of the kidneys, the consequences of kidney failure, the means to protect the kidneys as well as dialysis and transplant treatments in the company of Dr. Martin Plaisance (nephrologist). Finally, Dr. Warner Mampuya (cardiologist) will talk to the audience about the cardiovascular health of diabetic patients.

The activity is aimed at all people living with diabetes and their loved ones as well as the general population. Entrance and parking are free.
