Loi Veil, the Department committed to serving women

50 years after the Veil Law, which revolutionized women's rights, the Departmental Council reaffirms its overall support for women in matters of sexual and reproductive health, in particular with regard to abortion.

50 years after the decriminalization of abortion in on January 17, 1975 and the registration on March 8, 2024 of this right in the French Constitutionthe Departmental Council recalls “the essential role that its services play in prevention and support for women”.

Maternal child protection

As part of its PMI (maternal and child protection) missions, the Departmental Council generally monitors and monitors pregnant women via a certain number of treatments which fall within the framework of PMI.

Reimbursement of examination fees, contraception, IVF

Among the latter: the reimbursement of exam fees and biological analyzes prescribed as part of family planning consultations (contraception, pregnancy tests, screening for sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy diagnosis). But also the orientation towards Hospital PASS (permanent access to health care) which ensures that examination costs are covered.

Sexual health centers

Also via the Gard sexual health centers (CSS) proposing actions to ensure
women control their sexuality. CSS is aimed at minors, young adults up to 25 years old, to women in vulnerable situations and without social security coverage and to all women wishing support around the voluntary termination of pregnancy.

Where are they located?

The Gard is meshed with 10 locations of sexual health centers : within medical social centers, in the hospital centers of Nîmes, Alès and Bagnols-sur-Cèze and the branch of the Gard Movement for Family Planning in Alès which the Departmental Council subsidizes. Addresses below:

All you have to do is go to the site where you will be welcomed by secretaries who will identify everyone's request. The centers are in free and confidential access. Doctors or midwives provide gynecology medical consultations during which contraception adapted to each person can be prescribed, or screening for STIs or genital cancers, or a pregnancy diagnosis. Marriage and family counselors offer attentive listening and discuss marital and family relationships, voluntary termination of pregnancy…

The Observatory of violence against women

In the 4th edition of the letter from the Observatory on violence against women, Aid to women, published by the Observatory, the President of the Departmental Council, Françoise Laurent-Perrigot and Isabelle Fardoux-Jouve, Departmental Councilor, Delegate to the Gender equality and the fight against discrimination reminded us of the necessity of the duty to continue the fight. “By offering easier access to abortion and by carrying out prevention and awareness-raising actions, the Gard Departmental Council contributes to guaranteeing gender equality and promoting responsible and chosen sexuality,” concludes the president.
