Ryder Cup: Americans will be paid for the first time

For the first time under a new PGA Main Tour program, Americans will pocket US$200,000 each to compete in the Ryder Cup, and they will receive $300,000 to donate to charity.

This prize pool of $500,000 offered to each of the 12 golfers and the captain of the American team is a considerable increase compared to the $200,000 which was formerly reserved for a charity. This remuneration issue arose in 1999.

The PGA Main Tour Board of Directors met last week and approved the initiative, announcing it on its social media channels Monday morning.

Team USA captain Keegan Bradley has already indicated that he will donate 100% of his winnings to charity. A prize pool of $500,000 is equivalent to a 10th place finish at the PGA Championship.

The main PGA Tour stressed that no player asked to be paid. However, he recalled that the golfers and the captain are responsible for making the Ryder Cup one of the most important sporting events on the planet.
