After a rather heavy opening card of 76 (+4), Julien Guerrier revived somewhat after 36 holes thanks to a good 71 (-1). Before confirming with a 70 (-2) this Saturday… Projected 24th in the Race, far from a sesame on the PGA Tour for the moment, the Rochelais, lucid, gave himself the challenge of grabbing the top… 25 of the Race, synonymous with The Open in Portrush (Northern Ireland) next July.

« A score in the red here is always good. » In the tough the day before with an inaugural 76 (+4), Julien Guerrier rectified the situation on Friday by posting an encouraging 71 (-1). Ranked 41st after two rounds, the recent winner of the Andalucia Masters was aware that he would have to bring out the “ very big game » during the weekend to extricate yourself, already, from this leaderboard bottom and, above all, to hang a “ reward » at the end of the 72 holes of this DP World Tour Championship 2024.
If one of the ten spots put into play to evolve on the PGA Tour seems clearly inaccessible at the moment (he was projected 24th in the Race halfway through), a ticket for The Open next summer at Royal Portrush (July 17-20) is clearly on his radar. Remember that the top 25, and no longer the top 30 of the Race, will qualify for the oldest Major in History.
At the start of the season, my goals were to qualify for the British, win a tournament and therefore make the final (of the Race). We achieved two out of the three.

« Getting back into the race for goals is doable, breathes the one who has just started a collaboration with the Belgian Jerome Theunis. But we will have to make a -5 or a -6 and a lot of birdies… I believe in it but everything has to go well… »
« The projections, to be honest, I don't watch themhe adds. I know that I have to make at worst a top 5 for the card (you PGA Tour). It was a goal that wasn't necessarily mine at the start of the season. But there, inevitably, we get closer to it, we talk about it. We are changing a little in terms of expectations. At the start of the season, my goals were to qualify for the British, win a tournament and make the final. (of the Race). We achieved two out of the three. »
« The goal on Sunday is to secure a spot for The Openhe concludes. With my position, I am a little less in control of my destiny. It moves in all directions. I am 24th in the Race, tomorrow I could be 22nd or even further. In short, we'll do the accounts tomorrow evening! »
After 54 holes this Saturday (see above), the Frenchman, who decided to move to Dubai with his wife and children, was in 38th place at +1 thanks to a card of 70 (-2) with four birdies and two bogeys. At the end of the recording, he was then projected 24th in the Race, still on the right side to challenge the famous Northern Irish links in a few months!
