OM: “My Mbemba hurts!”

In the Super Moscato Show on RMC, Eric Di Meco did not mince his words when returning to the management of the Olympique de squad during the defeat against . One of the first targets of his analysis was the exclusion of Chancellor Mbembaa choice that particularly frustrated him. “Last night, I had pain in my Mbemba”says Di Meco. He deeply regrets that the Congolese defender, who has always “does the job” on the field despite less explosive performances than in the past, was left aside. “Even if he is no longer the Mbemba of the Porto years, he could have been of service”he adds.

Di Meco criticizes the fact that OM preferred to field a player like Pierre-Emile Højbjerg in central defense, a position which is not natural for him. According to By Mecothis decision is all the more questionable as By Zerbithe OM coach, justified this choice by mentioning the difficulty of playing with two left-handed central defenders. “We play well with two right-handers, but with two left-handers, is that a problem?”he asks himself. He continues ironically: “Left-handed people are less gifted? Isn’t the brain positioned the same?”. For Di Meco, De Zerbi’s logic does not hold, and leaving Mbemba out of the team is a strategic error.

Di Meco’s frustration doesn’t end there. He also highlights the situation in attack with Elye Wahi, whom he considers ineffective and isolated. “Wow, I don’t understand anymore”he says, while emphasizing that patience with the player is coming to an end. “It is isolated, but it is of no use”he declares, calling for an alternative. Di Meco wants to see Neal Maupay take the place of Place at the forefront of the attack. According to him, OM have not yet fielded their ideal team, one that could truly apply De Zerbi’s style of play. “I am convinced that we have not yet seen the typical OM team”he says, hoping for changes, particularly with Adrien Rabiot and Maupay at the forefront.

However, despite his criticisms, By Meco tempers by reminding that one should not overload Roberto De Zerbiwho is still in the adaptation phase with the team. “We are not going to cut this coach who has just arrived either”he admits. He admits that OM have only shown the beginnings of the game advocated by De Zerbi and that it will take time to see the team running at full capacity.

Eric Di Meco therefore believes that OM still has a lot of potential to exploit, but that certain tactical choices, notably the exclusion of Mbemba and the positioning of Wahi, must be quickly re-evaluated for the team to reach its full potential.
