Barcelona’s 16-year-old midfield gem already following in Marc Bernal’s footsteps

Just two games into the 2024/25 season, Marc Bernal is already seen as the breakout star of the campaign at FC Barcelona.

Just 17 years old, the young The Farmhouse midfielder has become a starter in Hansi Flick’s team and has made a solid impression in his first two matches in La Liga.

Now, it appears that Barcelona now have another young midfield prospect who is already following in the footsteps of Marc Bernal.

Indeed, according to SPORT, teenage The Farmhouse gem Pedro Rodriguez Iglesias appears all set to break into the Barça Atletic setup this season soon after finishing his time with Cadet A, much like Bernal.

Like Bernal, Pedro is a midfielder with the undisputed stamp of The Farmhouse and his potential shines through regardless of whether he plays as a defensive midfielder or an interior.

In his last season as a cadet, Bernal showed his potential and in the final stretch of the season, he began to alternate between the Cadete A and Juvenil A sides.

From the Cadete A and a few games with the Juvenil B, Bernal joined Barça Atletic’s pre-season squad, where he won the hearts of Rafa Márquez, who made him the revelation of the reserve team.

Pedro Rodriguez experienced something similar last season, and after a brilliant season in the División de honor Cadete, he was called up by Pol Planas to play for the Juvenil B.

Now, Barça Atletic coach Albert Sanchez called for the 16-year-old midfielder from the start of the pre-season and the youngster has continued in the reserve team training sessions while also being named on the bench in their first game of the season.

In the pre-season, he was the alternative to Pau Prim as the team’s defensive midfielder, but he also played some minutes as an interior attacking midfielder.

It is still not guaranteed that Pedro Rodriguez will continue with Barcelona Atletic for the rest of the season, but what is clear is that the Catalans have another gem of a midfielder on their hands.
