“Contempt”, “baseness”. On social networks, the inhabitants of Lozère were only moderately appreciative of Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s humorous remark during the summer university of La France insoumise.

In a video published by Patricio Andolini on X, the founder of La France insoumise praises Martinique and takes the opportunity to treat himself (for free) to the smallest department in France, in front of a hilarious audience. In his short bio on X, Patricio Andolini presents himself as a “whistleblower” who “defends [sa] France against the Islamists and LFI”.

In this video, Mélenchon first lists the names of great figures born on the island, before a conclusion that has many people in the Languedoc department grinding their teeth. “When you do both [Aimé] Cesaire, Frantz Fanon, [Edouard] Slippery and [Patrick] Chamoiseau, you can’t say “we are born anywhere”… In Lozère, you don’t have that.”

“Marie-Rose Brugeron, Righteous Among the Nations, Jean-Antoine Chaptal, Henri Bourrillon or Théophile Roussel like so many other Lozériens are the honor of France. Quite the opposite of this ham… without a destiny…”, replied the department of Lozère on its Facebook page on Wednesday. Where, visibly, the politician’s humor did not really hit the mark.
