“She was the last one, a little isolated. Father Pierre then allegedly made inappropriate gestures, he behaved badly. She says she was “molested” by Father Pierre,” the bishop of Isère explained to France Bleu Isère on Tuesday, August 27. The letter, intended to obtain an apology from Father Pierre, was first addressed to the Capuchin community to which the founder of Emmaüs belonged. It was then redirected to the diocese of Grenoble “because he had been incardinated here, that’s where he started to practice, so he was referenced here,” said Jean-Marc Eychenne.

No follow-up was given to the letter.

“The bishop at the time asked the Capuchins to refer this person to us to help him, to clarify the situation, but we did not receive any follow-up,” said the clergyman. The diocese did not follow up on this testimony at the time either.
READ ALSO Behind the Abbé Pierre affair, the slow disintegration of the Emmaüs empireA report by the Abbé-Pierre and Emmaüs Foundation revealed last July that Abbé Pierre was accused by at least seven women of sexual assault between the 1970s and 2005. Following these revelations, the diocese decided to delve back into its documents to find any trace or corroborating testimony.
