After a day of rest, it’s back to the climbs for the Vuelta riders. On a 160 km route, between Ponteareas and Baoina, in Galicia, four listed climbs await the peloton, Tuesday August 27. The stage will not gain much height, but promises to be very demanding with a first difficulty, the climb towards the Alto Fonfria pass (2nd category, 15 km at 4.3%), right at the start of the race. The last 60 kilometers will also be marked by a succession of three passes, the Alto de Vilachan (6.3 km at 5.6%), the Alto de Mabia (6 km at 5.7%) and the Alto de Mougas (9.9 km at 6.1%), which could be the scene of attacks from the favorites, with its summit located 20 km from the finish.
This course should allow climbers with punch to express themselves. Comfortable in the climbs of the 9th stage, Richard Carapaz (EF Education-Easypost) can claim victory. Still second overall behind Ben O’Connor, Primoz Roglic (+3’53”), very comfortable in the short and steep climbs, could also be tempted to take the lead to continue to make up time on the red jersey.
