Sabato speaks on JD Vance’s recent interview regarding abortion | Local News

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — The University of Virginia’s Larry Sabato called out JD Vance in an interview Sunday with CNN.

Sabato said he was questioning the way Vance was responding when he was asked if Trump would veto a federal abortion ban.

In Vance’s interview with “Meet the Press,” Vance says he thinks Trump would not support a federal ban if introduced. Sabato says he wasn’t confident of that answer.

“Trump has had a number of positions on abortion. He’s revised his view on abortion. He’s revised what women should do if they need abortions. There are so many pieces of this that keep changing. There is an old saying that we all know. ‘When you are in a hole, stop digging.’ They can’t stop digging,” Sabato said on CNN.

Sabato also criticized how Vance was responding to the abortion question by saying “I think” rather than a concrete answer to a veto of a federal abortion ban.

On Friday, Trump took to social media platform Truth Social, stating “My Administration will be great for women and their reproductive rights.”

As Trump has said in interviews of his own, he plans to follow the Supreme Court decision and leave abortion to the states.
