Barcelona won their third straight match to begin the new The League season thanks to a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Rayo Vallecano, but the injury suffered by young midfielder Marc Bernal late in the contest was undoubtedly one the biggest talking points after the game.

Bernal suffered what appears to be a very serious knee injury in the ninth minute of added time, and his coach Hansi Flick was asked after the game about the 17-year-old’s status. His answer was short and to the point, and the boss did not sound optimistic.

“Nobody in the dressing room is happy. Marc Bernal’s situation doesn’t look good. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow.”

There are multiple reports from several reliable sources in Catalan media that say Bernal has suffered a season-ending ACL injury on his left knee, and tests on Wednesday back in Barcelona will only serve to confirm what everyone already expects.

This is a brutal blow for Bernal and for Barça, who lose one of their most promising young players who had already become a crucial pice of Flick’s system and a very important starter with other pivot options such as Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Andreas Christensen and Eric García already out with various injuries.

Get well soon, Marc!
