TIKTOK – There is a time, a place and even a secret code. In Spain, Mercadona supermarkets have become the perfect place to meet people according to TikTok. As you can see in our video abovejust go there between 7pm and 8pm, and place a pineapple upside down in your shopping cart. To match, you then have to discreetly bump into another customer’s shopping cart, and that’s it…

This unusual trend, launched by Spanish actress Vivy Lin on August 20, was spotted by BFMTV. The actress filmed herself in a Mercadona, explaining that she had searched on Google for the best time to flirt at the supermarket. She quickly came across an article from 2017, where a participant in the reality TV show First Dates revealed his flirting trick.

Portugal, Dominican Republic…

« The time to flirt at Mercadona is… from 7pm to 8pm! ” exclaimed Vivy Lin, laughing. Her TikTok, which has reached more than 1.6 million views, has then encouraged many Internet users to try the experience. And to find each other among singles, the upside-down pineapple has become the ideal signal, even internationally: some videos have been filmed in Portugal or the Dominican Republic.

If it doesn’t create couples, the trend seems to be attracting people to Spanish supermarkets. Many TikToks show the shelves filling up at 7pm, and some claim that there are more customers in their local Mercadona than usual. The company, however, refuses to comment on the subject and has ordered its employees to do the same, according to RFI.
