NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A tropical disturbance in the northwest Gulf continues to keep our weather active through this holiday weekend.

We’ve been lucky not to see a repeat of Friday’s flooding but some areas still got heavy rains with the continued onshore flow. While the tropical disturbance in the Gulf isn’t expected to develop, it’s still bringing deep-layer moisture capable of tropical downpours into Sunday. Street flooding remains a concern.

Sunday shouldn’t be a total washout of a day but expect morning rain and storms with the threat tapering in the afternoon and evening.

The disturbance will move south in the Gulf by Labor Day. This will decrease the chances of rain and even allow for some sun. The storm chance will drop to around 30% with highs returning to 90 degrees.

As a surface front drops in from the north, it will increase our rain chances again by mid-week.

Tropics: The Gulf tropical disturbance isn’t expected to develop but as mentioned above, it will lash our area with periodic rain.

There are two other tropical waves in the Atlantic. The one that’s getting the attention is headed for the Lesser Antilles by early next week. It’s expected to have a slow development within the next week. This one will need to be watched as it moves over the deep warm water of the Carribean.

The other wave being monitored is in the far eastern Atlantic with very low chances for development.
