Two occupants of a van died in a road accident this Wednesday morning shortly after 10 a.m. in Campsegret (Dordogne) on the national 21. The van hit a semi-trailer which was arriving opposite on a bend. According to the first elements of the investigation, the van was overtaking, despite the white lines at this location. The frontal impact was very violent.
The truck driver is seriously injured. His truck jackknifed under the violence of the shock. On board the van, two employees of a sanitation company in the Périgueux area. The cab of their pickup truck was completely crushed by the engine block.
“A very dangerous axis” according to the mayor
It was necessary to involve the USAR, the specialized fire rescue and clearance unit with heavy extrication equipment to pull the two victims from the carcass of the vehicle. The mayor of Campsegret, Jean-Marie Gellé, visited the scene late in the morning. He evokes “a very dangerous axis”. The councilor claims to have reported this route twice with the Dordogne Prefecture. “We have to find solutions,” believes Jean-Marie Gellé. “People don’t respect speed limits. Cars come very fast and don’t slow down on the bend.”
RN21 cut for six hours

A major emergency response system was deployed. 18 firefighters went there. Diversions have been put in place. Drivers going from Périgueux to Bergerac were diverted from Grun-Bordas via departmental 43 which goes towards Vergt. In the opposite direction, cars are directed, from the Ribeyrie roundabout, towards departmental 21.
