Laurent Wauquiez calls for a commission presidency, Gabriel Attal refuses

Except that since LR’s return to the “majority”, Laurent Wauquiez, president of the DR group, considered that he was entitled to a commission presidency. The former president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region then wanted to renegotiate.

Gabriel Attal, president of the EPR group, did not give in. Laurent Wauquiez persisted and then instructed his group not to vote for the Macronist candidate Stéphane Travert (former Minister of Agriculture), which allowed the election of Aurélie Trouvé.

“They don’t hold any deals.”

“They don’t hold any deal,” fumes a Macronist MP to RMC. A Republican deputy approves of Laurent Wauquiez’s decision. “Gabriel Attal wanted to force the transition. With 47 deputies, the DR group should have at least two presidencies,” he believes.

The Republicans ultimately have none and the left gets one more. Aurélie Trouvé won with 27 votes to 25 for Stéphane Travert.

Michel Barnier deplores the “criticism” of Macronist deputies

The dissensions between Macronists and Republicans are not going to get better. Already on Tuesday, a meeting between Prime Minister Michel Barnier, also a member of LR, and Macronist deputies took place in a tense climate.

For more than an hour and a half, Michel Barnier certainly took questions from 15 deputies, but provided few substantive answers, in particular on the concerns about the tax increase which had been raised by Gérald Darmanin. The Prime Minister rather responded formally. “You are speaking to criticize me,” he said to the deputies.
