In 2021, the Country Valley launched his Territorial Agricultural and Food Project (PAAT) whose objective is to “tend towards better food resilience and one less dependence on fossil fuels of the territory”.

In this context, the Pays Vallée de la Sarthe is actively working on “accessibility and awareness of local food and quality for all” and participates for the 3rd consecutive year au national system “The Big Meal”which will take place on Thursday October 3, 2024.

The objective of the Grand Repas is to bring together the citizens of the territory the same dayaround a same local menu.

The Pays Vallée de la Sarthe wanted to organize this event on a local scale and this year, to bring together the actors of the traditional catering et collective around this action.

A restaurant for the general public

The principle, for restaurants, is to offer on the big day, the menu developed for Sarthe and Mayenne by the chef Jérôme Lebretonhead of restaurant “l’Antiquaire” has Laval (starter: creamy beetroot with raspberry vinegar; main course: veal sauté with apples, buckwheat risotto; dessert: butternut and white chocolate gloria éclair).

Each restaurant is free to add its own personal touch.

This event is an invitation to sharing and conviviality. It is also an opportunity to promote local partnership between the local producers and the restaurants and thus, raise awareness among their guests about challenges of short circuits and to taste education.

This year, a traditional restaurant and six collective catering structures are partners of the event: le Grand Hôtel de Solesmes and the school restaurants of Fillé-sur-Sarthe, Auvers-le-Hamon, Roëzé-sur-Sarthe, Vion, the ARPS restaurant of Sablé-sur-Sarthe and the central kitchen of La Suze-sur-Sarthe which supplies the two school restaurants, the housing center and carries meals in the town.

Local residents are invited to come and discover the “Grand meal” menu at the restaurant of the Grand Hôtel de Solesmes open on Thursday, October 3 from 12 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. and from 7:30 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
