Opposed to the French “bomber” Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the first round of the ATP 500 in Beijing, Carlos Alcaraz had the “good idea” to break in the first game of each set to win 6–4, 6–4.

Even though he knew what to expect, the four-time Grand Slam winner was visibly impressed by the power of the 51e world.

“The plan was to put as many returns inside as possible. It was not easy, because he was serving at 230 or 240 km/h on almost all his services. He is a very powerful player, with a great serve and great shots from the baseline. It was about putting as much pressure as possible on the return game.”
