New government: why Cazeneuve rather than Castets?

The first is a woman, a senior civil servant, off the political radar, of the “techno” type in which Emmanuel Macron has always liked to mold his Prime Ministers. The second is the incarnation of the old political world, Dutch to boot, that is to say of the species with which he seemed to have definitively cut ties. Castets-Cazeneuve, two profiles for Matignon that upset all logic.

Emmanuel Macron has not yet made his choice, but he knows which of the two he does not want. Or rather which one, since it is Lucie Castets. If her CV can seduce, her supporters and her ideas are all that he rejects. After the catastrophic electoral sequence, the president is willing to concede a failure and appoint an “opponent” to Matignon, but not to draw a line under what he has done for seven years. However, on taxation, pension reform, the level of the minimum wage, Lucie Castets does not mince her words in sparing Macron’s policy: she demolishes it. No doubt because she believes in it, no doubt because she is a hostage of LFI.
