Stefano Domenicali is not worried about a drop in competitiveness in F1 in 2026 with the new regulations. While the convergence has been colossal since 2024 and for 2025, with very tight gaps and an evolving hierarchy, the 2026 season could be radically different, with high gaps and possible domination.
“When there is a new regulation, it’s always like that” the Formula 1 CEO told Autosprint. “I don't forget that when the 2022 regulations were introduced, the teams were complaining that the cars would be six seconds slower. In four years, we have achieved very strong convergence.
“Now we start again with a different regulation, with many new challenges and different things to tweak. At the beginning we won't have this kind of gap, it would be unrealistic to think. But, the way the regulation of F1 2026 is designed, convergence will come.”
A convergence which will provide spectacle and intense struggles, even if the teams do not know what to expect for next year: “There are a lot of themes that will develop. It is normal that, from the teams' point of view, there is a conservative approach.”
-“Several new manufacturers are arriving, favored by these technological changes which serve to maintain the evolving and positive tension of those who consider our formula as a development platform for the future. We must look at the whole picture and not the details . We need to think big.”
