Before coming out of his first retirement to return to Formula 1, at the dawn of the 2010 season with Mercedes, Michael Schumacher had carried out tests at the wheel of a GP2. Objective: to get around the restrictions on private testing, already in force at that time, to get back into the swing of things… and into the rhythm.

It was therefore on the Jerez circuit that the seven-time world champion carried out three days of testing, from January 12 to 14, 2010. The objective was twofold, since GP2 was also developing its third-place car at that time. generation, which would be used until the end of the 2013 season: the GP2/11.

The argument for placing Michael Schumacher in his seat was therefore obvious, allowing at the same time to benefit from the technical feedback of a great champion before this car begins in competition.

The German’s return to Formula 1 was made official at the end of December 2009, when Mercedes made its comeback with a factory team in the discipline after a long stint as an engine manufacturer. The star firm had bought Brawn GP, the Brackley team which had just achieved the feat of winning everything with Ross Brawn at its head and Jenson Button at the wheel.

After these tests, Michael Schumacher’s return to Formula 1 materialized and lasted three seasons: 2010, 2011 and 2012, all at the wheel of a Silver Arrow. However, he only achieved a single podium during his final year in , before leaving the premier category for good.
