The year is off to a bad start for Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin, his co-driver at Toyota in the WRC. The number 33 crew of the Japanese team suffered an accident. This from this Thursday, January 9, during tests carried out in France, near Dévoluy (Hautes-Alpes), it seems. All in view of the Monte-Carlo rally, opening of the WRC season from January 23 to 26.
Thus, the crew carried out its first tests of the season this Thursday, January 9. The conditions were difficult, on a wet and dirty road. And it ended badly, the duo’s Yaris ending up off the road. An accident which fortunately was nothing serious.
Photos from fans on site, which circulated on social networks, however, show the car in an unfavorable position. The Welsh driver apparently missed a turn and ended up on the parapet of a small water passage, under the road. And the car just stood there.
Toyota continues to prepare for Monte-Carlo
Not enough to disrupt Toyota for long in its preparation for the Monte-Carlo rally. The manufacturer already started work on this event at the start of the week. The Rövanpera-Halttunen and Ogier-Landais crews took turns at the wheel. The two will also meet again and compete during this famous rally in the days to come.
The tests followed one another on different surfaces. The roads were sometimes dry, snowy or therefore wet. Enough to provide a lot of information to prepare for the test. But be careful: the competition doesn’t give up. Hyundai is also organizing these tests at the moment. What promise a great duel at Monte-Carlo?
