Formula 1 | Without software, Newey will fall two months behind the 2026

Adrian Newey no longer has access to any software to continue working and prepare for his return to with Aston Martin in March.

The British designer revealed that Red Bull had (logically) blocked his licenses at his notice and he will also not have access to a visualization of the 2026 F1 rules to start preparing them.

If Red Bull can't stop him from thinking about innovations that will benefit his future employer, Newey admits he is seriously limited.

“They can't block my brain but they blocked my tools.”

“Aston obviously wants to do the best it can in 2025, but my main focus will be on the 2026 regulations and this big change, and I start on March 2.”

“The aerodynamic rules come out at the beginning of January. So I will already be two months late. But in truth, of course, it's more than that, because not only will I be late in reading these regulations compared to their publication…”

And no matter how good he is at continuing to use a drawing board, Newey admits he needs a computer reading of the rules.

“With the way regulations have evolved, you really have to be in front of a CAD system [conception assistée par ordinateur] also, to be able to understand all the boxes and everything else. They are so prescribed. What are the free zones, restricted zones, etc.?

“At the same time I will also have to get to know a new team, get to know all the guys and girls who work there and how we all work together.”
