Alex Albon is convinced that Williams F1 can return to the top of Formula 1 in the near future. The Thai driver revealed that he believes in it wholeheartedly, and if he didn't, he wouldn't be a good representative and driver for the Grove team.
“As I see it, it’s more like I believed in this project and committed myself to the team for several years” Albon said. “It's also part of my duty to make this work. I enjoy the challenge. I feel like we have a big journey ahead of us.”
“If I think the team isn't doing what I can do, that's not the right mindset. Ultimately, I have to ask myself what my role is in all of this and I won't neglect no details to try to get even the smallest percentage of performance out of the car and make sure we're on the right track.”
Albon definitely wants to get rid of the 'peaky' aspect of the Williams, that is to say a characteristic which sometimes makes it difficult to master, because of a fine limit on which to position oneself.
“It's true. We know that as a team, if we want to be at the best of our level, there is no point in having a 'peaky' car. A car like that is good in the back pack, when you are able to score points in two or three races.”
“That's normally enough to get eighth or ninth place, or even tenth in the championship. We know we have to be more consistent and adapt to the different circuits. We've definitely gone backwards in terms of straight line speed compared to our rivals.”
“But I also think that a lot of teams have come closer to us. Everything is falling into place. At the moment, in Formula 1, the ten teams are very similar in terms of drivers, which will be very interesting for 2025.”
