Driving a Formula 1 car in the world championship is probably the ultimate dream of all those who love cars from near or far. But it is also a good way to become very rich, the discipline remaining very popular all over the world with very large revenues generated by the stables and the organizer.
There is still no other discipline capable of offering such high salaries in world motorsport and the best drivers in the championship have once again become considerably richer in this 2024 season. As Forbes journalists report, this is logically Max Verstappen who earned the most this year with $75 million earned in total ($60 million in salary and $15 million in bonuses). He is thus ahead of Lewis Hamilton with his 55 million dollars and his two million dollars in bonuses, Lando Norris finishing third with his 12 million dollars in salaries and especially his 23 million bonuses.
Veteran Fernando Alonso is also doing very well with his $24 million salary plus a bonus of $3.5 million ahead of Charles Leclerc and George Russell. Note the nice bonus for young Oscar Piastri at McLaren, paid “only” five million dollars but spoiled with a bonus of 17 million dollars! Closing the top 10 highest salaries, Frenchman Pierre Gasly received 10 million dollars, including more than two million in bonuses.
Next year, Lewis Hamilton is expected to receive the biggest salary: $60 million in salary according to Forbes, with earnings that could approach $100 million when adding bonuses. And let’s also remember that they will have to pay for the right to race, even if it will be their teams which will cover these costs.
