While Max Verstappen made a crazy comeback to win at the Brazilian Grand Prix, Lando Norris expressed his frustration, declaring that “it's not talent, it's just luck”. During the FIA awards ceremony, the British driver took the opportunity to return to his comments.
17th at the start of Brazilian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen had achieved the feat of imposing itself, in front of the Alpine d’Esteban Ocon et Pierre Gasly. The Dutchman notably took advantage of a red flag caused by Franco Colapinto to change his tires before he had yet pitted and Lando Norris did not hide his frustration.
“It’s not talent, it’s just luck”
« I don't care what people say. Not coming into the pits was not the right thing to do. A red flag shouldn't have come, but the crash ultimately brought one. That's life. Sometimes you take a gamble and it pays off for them. It's not talent, it's just luck. We were just unlucky, that's all. (…) You can change your tires under the red flag, that's what the others did, so it's just unlucky. Sometimes things work out the way you want them to », had blurted out Lando Norris.
“I would like to withdraw my comment”
Comments to which the Briton returned during the awards ceremony of the FIA. « First of all, I would like to withdraw my comment in which I said “only luck, not talent” “, declared Lando Norrisin comments relayed by Auto Hebdo. « Firstly, I want to congratulate Max. What he did this year, in Brazil… It was incredible. I am the first to recognize such a thing even though I am the one facing it. It was a very difficult season. I gave my best and tried to give the best fight possible, but it wasn't enough this year. At the same time, I'm sometimes happy to finish second behind Max, because I think it's a real achievement to do much better than that. So this is a wonderful year for me. Lots of accomplishments, improvements on my part… But I also know that I have to take a step forward and do more than what I did this year. »
