Maverick Viñales will compete next season with his fourth different manufacturer since his MotoGP debut. The Spanish rider left Aprilia to join KTM's satellite team, while Pedro Acosta joined the factory team. At the Barcelona circuit, which was also the venue for the final race of the 2024 season, Maverick Viñales completed 74 laps in his first test of the RC16. The Spanish driver finished in 12th position, 1.084 seconds behind the best time set by Alex Márquez.

“The first day went well, it was a very clean day. We just wanted to understand the bike. I didn't have any particular expectations on the feeling, but honestly, the feedback from the first laps was very positive, and we understood the tires and the limit I wanted to try to finish the day with a good time, but it got cold very early, so I didn't want to take any risks. In a way, the feeling today! was really natural, which I think is fantastic. that my riding style suits this machine well, I was able to feel comfortable straight away. Of course, we will need more time on track to understand how far I can push, how much. I can't brake, but I can't wait to find out,” explained Maverick Viñales after the last day of official testing.
