As after each Grand Prix, it is time to discover the most striking statistics, the records that have been broken, the remarkable series still in progress or which came to an abrupt end during the last weekend…
Only five of the previous 1,121 races (0.44%) in the world championship have been won from 17th or further down the grid.
In 2005, Kimi Räikkönen also won in Japan, starting 17th. Barrichello won at Hockenheim in 2000, starting 18th. In 1983 in the USA, John Watson did even better by winning from 22nd place.
Both Verstappen and Alonso had previous victories starting from nine different positions on the grid. However, by winning from 17th place, Verstappen now reaches the ten winning starting positions. He has won from 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 14th, and now 17th positions, becoming the first F1 driver to achieve this impressive figure.
The Red Bull driver ended a streak of 10 races without a victory (Barcelona 2024), his longest since 2020.
Verstappen won the race with a lead of more than 19 seconds, although he had not finished less than 19 seconds behind the winner since before the summer break (he finished 59.558 seconds behind Sainz for example in Mexico).
The Dutchman beats Michael Schumacher's record for the most consecutive days at the top of the drivers' championship (896 days for Schumacher).
Red Bull scores points for the 64th consecutive weekend, matching McLaren's second-longest run of all time from 2010 to 2013 (the record is held by Ferrari with 81 races, from 2010 to 2014).
Esteban Ocon finished 2nd for Alpine (his 4th F1 podium). This is the first time he has stood on the same podium place more than once (he had previously finished first once, once second and once third).
Alpine had not completed a top-5 lap in a Grand Prix this season before Brazil.
Pierre Gasly finished 3rd in his 150th Grand Prix. This is his 5th podium in F1.
Gasly had never finished on the podium twice at the same circuit (he took 2nd place at Interlagos in 2019).
The last time two French drivers finished on the podium was in Spain in 1997, with Olivier Panis 2nd and Jean Alesi 3rd.
This is the first time that the Alpine brand has achieved a double podium (first double podium for the Enstone team since the Lotus era in 2013, with Kimi Räikkönen and Romain Grosjean, the last in Korea in 2013).
Alpine goes from ninth to sixth place in the manufacturers' championship in one race, which is worth a good thirty million dollars at the end of the year.
It was Russell's 18th points finish this season, but only his third podium finish.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finished 5th – and is still without a podium at Interlagos.
Verstappen could clinch the title at the next race in Las Vegas. He just needs to not lose more than two points on Lando Norris.
Yuki Tsunoda finished 7th (his best result of the year) for RB after having achieved his best career qualifications earlier (E place).
McLaren's Oscar Piastri finished 8th for the second race in a row. Insufficient in a McLaren F1!
Liam Lawson took 9th place in the second RB – the second time he has finished 9th in three races this season.
Lewis Hamilton's 10th place is his lowest result at Interlagos since joining Mercedes in 2013.
Sergio Perez finished just outside the points in 11th for Red Bull. He has scored just one point in the last two race weekends, and the team is now 49 points behind McLaren F1, the constructors' championship leader.
Ollie Bearman finished 12th for Haas, his first career Grand Prix without points!
Franco Colapinto retired for Williams – his first retirement in F1.
Nico Hülkenberg received the first black flag for a driver in a Grand Prix since Canada 2007, where Giancarlo Fisichella and Felipe Massa left the pits under a red light.
Alex Albon has not completed a lap in the last two Grands Prix.
At Aston Martin, Lance Stroll's retirement during the formation lap leaves him tied with Jacques Villeneuve for the most starts for a Canadian driver (163).
