Oscar Piastri reveals his Achilles heel in F1

Oscar Piastri seems to be progressing from race to race, but he says he still has a lot of room for improvement in Formula 1, and in particular wants to work on his lack of consistency.

Since his arrival in Formula 1, Oscar Piastri has continued to gain momentum in the discipline. After the 2024 Singapore GP, and only forty appearances in the premier single-seater category, the Australian already has nine podiums, including two victories, to which we can add a success in Sprint, as well as five front rows.

Promising beginnings, which are far from satisfying the main interested party. The one who currently occupies fourth place in the championship believes that he can still progress enormously, and is therefore focusing on working on his weaknesses.

“I think I can improve everywhere, Oscar said in Singapore. I would say that I didn’t make it easy for myself in qualifying this year. I need to be able to qualify well on a more regular basis, that would help me. »

A lack of regularity to fill

The comparison with his teammate on the fast lap exercise is, in fact, largely to the advantage of the Briton, who has beaten his neighbor in the garage fourteen times in 2024.

“You know, there haven’t really been many sessions, apart from maybe Baku, where I was happy with my performance between Q1 and the end of Q3, he continues. The gap has always been very small in most of these races. But I’ve always been on the wrong side. »

“I don’t feel like we should try to save time anywhere, Piastri adds again. I believe my best performances are enough to qualify in pole position. But I just need to be at that level more regularly, to be more consistent. »

Piastri satisfied with his Sundays

In the race, the McLaren driver says he is more satisfied with the level of performance he is currently displaying. Especially since he has just achieved excellent results on circuits that were unknown to him before making the big leap into F1.

“I was very happy with what I showed in Baku in terms of overtaking, he congratulates himself. Being under pressure and that kind of thing, I was happy. There will still be some difficult races in the latter part of the year on circuits where I have only raced once. »

“I’m going to try to work on some of the weaknesses I had on these circuits last year. I can still improve in many areas. I feel like I’m getting better as my career goes on. But I’m definitely not the finished product yet” concludes Piastri.
