The first news from the Trackhouse team unfortunately confirms that Miguel Oliveira is injured after his fall during the first free practice session of the Indonesian Grand Prix.

The Portuguese driver was the victim of a violent highside mid-session Friday morning, on the Mandalika track, while he was entering turn 4 of the track. Spectacularly thrown by his Aprilia, he remained conscious but needed the help of rescuers to get up.

The first images gave the feeling that he could be suffering from lower limbs. However, transported a few minutes later to the circuit medical center, it was in the right wrist that a fracture was discovered.

The American team confirmed the information before the Test session, and the question now is what follow-up will be given to the treatment of this injury.

“Miguel suffers from a fracture in his right wrist”specifies Trackhouse in a press release. “He is undergoing a three-dimensional scan at Mataram Hospital to assess whether surgery is necessary. As soon as possible, we will provide further information.”

Withdrawal from the rest of the Indonesian Grand Prix, Miguel Oliveira also risks being absent for the following round, starting next week at Motegi. This is what was suggested by Motorsport.com the MotoGP doctor, Ángel Charte, who notably mentioned a “complicated fracture” before adding: “He will have to have surgery and will travel to Portugal for the operation. He will not be able to participate in the Japanese Grand Prix.”

The latest news from the team at the end of the day on site confirms this trend, while the driver’s injury has been diagnosed with greater precision. “Miguel suffers from a multiple fracture of the radius”Trackhouse reported. “This fracture has been successfully stabilized, Miguel is conscious and will return to Portugal for an operation consultation.”
