There were to be five candidates for the title of Miss Vibraye 2025. There were ultimately only three of them to parade, Saturday January 18, 2025, on the stage of the village hall. In 48 hours, the smooth running of this evening organized by the Vibraye festival committee () was disrupted due to a controversy.

Two teenage girls deprived of the Miss competition in Sarthe: the outlawed party committee

Following the publication of the presentations of the five candidates, a journalist from Ouest- contacted the prefecture to inform them that two candidates had not only 15 years old and ensure that the Vibraye festival committee was not outlaw.

After verification, the Prefecture actually noted that no application had been submitted, a mandatory procedure when candidates are under 16 years old.

In article 17 ter of the Official Journal of the session of the National Assembly of January 24, 2024, we can read that: “The system […] provides for supervision beyond the age of 13, under the control of the administrative authority. »

“They were understanding”

From then on, the town hall of Vibraye was informed, then Valerie Alixthe president of the festival committee, who had to announce their withdrawal from the competition to the two candidates concerned.

The president confides, still touched by this mishap.

It was a shock, our hearts ached for the girls. One of them was going to be 16 in a few days. They were extremely disappointed, that's normal. For them, this evening promised to be magnificent. They were understanding, like their parents whom we really thank for their kindness.

Meal cancellations following the withdrawal of two candidates

The committee then explains that it ignores “this 2014 law which aims to protect candidates aged 13 to 15 years old. This journalist's phone call caused us to lose around sixty meals. Did he think about the harm he was doing to us? We lost more than 1 000 € Who will compensate us? The girls had bought beautiful dresses, made an appointment with their hairdresser…” lists the president.

We meet the parents before the election, they are there on the evening of the vote, they accompany the Misses to the demonstrations, the girls are not even allowed to leave the room alone! We are volunteers, we want to liven up our community and offer an evening of happiness to people…

In the village hall, the public is not kind. Harsh words are circulating towards the journalist in question: “unhealthy buzz, excess of zeal, denunciation”. With regard to the prefecture, more understanding: “she just did her job”.

The competition still ended with one Miss elected, Coline Hamelin.
