For facts that occurred during March 2022, Kenzo could have been tried twice before this hearing. But two referrals had to be made while he was detained for other offenses. In March, his extraction from the penitentiary center was canceled due to lack of an available escort; in September, the inmate refused to leave his cell.
Thursday, December 19, the president of the hearing found in the file a request for referral made by Kenzo's lawyer. Thinking he had satisfaction, he did not move. As for the detainee, he renewed his refusal to attend his trial. After consulting the representative of the public prosecutor, the judge decided to investigate his case, considering that the defendant's rights had already been largely preserved.
Two vehicles stolen on the same day
The duo started cracking down in Coulommiers where two vehicles were stolen the same day. The first break-in, a Citroën C4 parked in the garage of a house. The owner's disabled wife, who was upstairs, was able to see Kenzo before he left the premises. The second, a Volkswagen T-Cross parked in the driveway of a house. Under the pretext of wanting details on a variety of flowers and being able to pick a few, Kenzo grabbed the keys from the garden table by surprise and rushed towards the SUV. While trying to rush out, he hit one of the pillars. However, he was able to escape and take the sum of €1,000 left on board.
After filing a complaint, the victims facilitated the work of the police with their testimony. They showed no hesitation in naming Kenzo on the photographic boards and reported the presence of a Mégane near their home. The use of video surveillance made it possible to read the registration of the Renault reputed to be stolen the day before in a parking lot in Savigny-le-Temple.
A few hours later, thanks to the on-board geolocation system, a patrol spotted the C4 abandoned on a city street. The T-Cross, also used for express return trips to Belgium, could not be found until much later but was completely charred.
Three offenses in continuity
By the time they found where Kenzo was hiding, the police arrested him and took him into police custody. They searched his home and discovered keys and jewelry. By cross-checking complaints and matching elements – presence of the Mégane then the T-Cross on the scene, jewelry recognized by one of the victims, demarcation of Kenzo's telephone near each location – they were able to make the link with others burglaries: theft of a laptop and jewelry in Saint-Siméon the same day, theft of a tablet and jewelry six days later in Epinay-sous-Sénart, attempted theft of goods and equipment in a warehouse in Quiers blocked by the triggering of an alarm.
Three years in prison
In the absence of the victims, the president read the request for compensation from two of them and the withdrawal letter from another. The public prosecutor then took over to request acquittal for two offenses – Saint-Siméon and Quiers – for lack of sufficient evidence. Immediately afterwards, he demanded severity for the remainder. The judge followed the public prosecutor's requisitions by pronouncing a partial acquittal and conviction for three offenses. She sentenced Kenzo by default to three years in prison, a sentence which will worsen his situation as he is currently detained until 2033. He will have to pay €2,000 and €1,500 to the two civil parties.
