He had been waiting for it for several weeks and it is now official, Movistar has chosen to extend its Colombian climber Nairo Quintana for an additional season.
And finally, the adventure of Nairo Quintana continues with Movistar. At 34, the Colombian climber will continue his career in the professional peloton next season. The announcement was made by Movistar and himself this Thursday, November 14, in a video posted on social networks.
“El Cóndor de Cómbita renews his contract with the Movistar team with the aim of continuing to fight in every competition, bringing all his experience and scoring as many points as possible for the team”announced the Spanish team in a press release.
An unexpected return
Convicted of doping, Nairo Quintana had to leave the Breton team Arkéa-Samsic before having a blank season. At the end of 2022, faced with the impasse, he even considered ending his career. But in October 2023 the Spanish team, for which he had already competed for eight seasons (2012-2019), offered him a new challenge.
The Colombian had been waiting for an extension with Movistar for several weeks. This season, handicapped by a fall in March, he still took part in two Grand Tours, the Vuelta where he finished 31st and the Giro where he finished 19th.
