The young 18-year-old sprinter-puncher, Alexandra Volstadcommits until 2027 with the American team EF-Oatly-Cannondale. Introduced to the track at the age of 10, the young Canadian quickly turned to the road, a choice which was quite successful for her. Indeed, just this season, Alexandra Volstad made ten appearances on the podium in Europe and North America. She notably successfully defended her title of Canadian junior road champion, while adding to her list of achievements the title of Canadian junior criterium champion. She also finished 12th in the last Junior World Championships on the road, where the British Cat Ferguson won.

Alexandra Volstad: “Next year I just want to learn as quickly as possible and get familiar with elite racing”

The 18-year-old is eager to start the 2025 season, as she explains in her new team's official press release, EF-Oatly-Cannondale : “I would say I'm a sprinter, but I'm also a bit of a puncher, so I can overcome some of the shorter climbs well. I'm becoming a classic runner. I did a track test session at the velodrome when I was 10 years old. From there, I joined a kids' group and did that for fun in the summer, in addition to speed skating, which was my main sport. I ended up taking track a little more seriously and got into mountain biking, cyclocross and road.

Next year I just want to learn as quickly as possible and get familiar with elite racing. I will help my teammates as much as I can and learn from them as much as I can. I think the EF-Oatly-Cannondale team will be a great team to help me progress. I can learn a lot from the experienced runners here, and their daring style of running inspires me a lot. I'm not nervous, but I'm buzzing,” explains the young 18-year-old runner.

Esra Tromp: “Alexandra Volstad? I was impressed by her maturity”

The general director of the American team Ezra Tromp immediately noticed that the Canadian possessed exceptional maturity for her age. Indeed, although still a teenager, Alexandra Volstad has been able to make important decisions in her life, such as accepting an offer to study engineering at university or choosing to become a professional athlete, with a maturity beyond her years. “I was impressed by his maturity. She is a young woman on a mission, who knows what she wants and what she needs. Alex has a very good sprint, good technical abilities and knows how to read a race. She is really very young. She will be an elite freshman next year, and so we need to provide her with a program suited to her development. His great character and great physical abilities make Alex a perfect addition to our team,” concludes Ezra Tromp in the team's official press release EF-Oatly-Cannondale.
