On the technical course of Pontevedra, Thibau Nys (Belgium) was crowned European cyclo-cross champion this Sunday. The Belgian completed a perfect race to finally win in front Felipe Orts (Spain) and That is, Iserby (Belgium). Criticized after a complicated start to the cyclo-cross season, Thibau Nys returned to form by winning last Sunday, before winning a first European championship title. “I knew exactly what I had to do, it was perfect” he said in the post-race interview.

“Felipe Orts? The right guy for me…”
“It was a very difficult race. It was so fast and very difficult to widen the gap. I started out feeling like I could win. I had to adapt to all scenarios, anything could happen. I didn't expect to have this much control. I knew exactly what I had to do and when I took the lead, I had total control of the race. It was perfect” declared the new European champion.
Nys led the race for a long time alongside the Spaniard Felipe Ortswho would ultimately finish second. “I knew he was going to race for the podium, so I had the right guy with me. It was 100% perfect. Felipe is super strong and I knew he would be really ready for this European Championship. It was definitely a goal for him. Having him with me was perfect.” he added.
