In Dijon, Guillaume Bagou really launched his winter into the undergrowth. At the foot of the podium (see ranking), the member of Charvieu-Chavagneux IC was reassured. “It went pretty well, it was a bit of an unknown after last week where I wasn't at my level. But I know why, I had some physical problems which meant that I couldn't not be 100% I almost fell in training and I blocked my back.. And it was in Nommay that he noticed the problem. “I realized it during the race so I had a week without cycling and an appointment with the osteopath”. The physique was then taken care of when arriving in Côte d'Or, but the head a little less. “I arrived with some apprehension, that’s why I was a little cautious at the beginning”.
In a comeback race, he overtook the competitors one by one until he was able to compete for the podium. “As the laps went by I saw that it was responding well. I finished very strong, it's a shame to have had mechanical problems which blocked my speed, otherwise the podium was easily possible. I finished ten meters behind Nico (Reculeau), although I lost a lot of time, but it's only been postponed”. Guillaume Bagou was even 3rd for a short time, before a final bike change doomed him. But the essential is assured. “I need points, I lost those in the first Coupe de France last year so that put me back a little on the lines. So it’s not bad to make a Top 5 again”.
“I WOULD LIKE TO FEEL STRONGER FOR MORE OF THE SEASON”
From now on, we will have to count on the Espoir 3 for the next races. “The start was a bit up and down, but I’m starting to get my bearings. I can’t wait to be at the Coupe de France next week”. Pierric will be keen to forget Nommay. “Last year I made Top 5 overall in the Coupe de France, I would have liked to do better but it could be complicated with my places in Nommay. I will try to play in the one-day races to grab the podium, even if it will be complicated, but everything is possible”. And as in Dijon, it will be in the pink jersey rather than the orange of Etupes which he left a few weeks ago. “I'm going back home a bit, where I was in Junior. It doesn't change much for cross country because I've been getting by for several years with my parents, but for the road it will definitely change something”.
Guillaume Bagou hopes for a new status with Charvieu. “It went quite well in Etupes. But the level was so heterogeneous and high, that being one of the youngest I didn't have much of a chance. It's my little regret, but I'll make up for it on my two years of Hopes to come”. If he remains active in cyclo-cross, he admits that the road will take up more and more space. “The more I advance in the years, the more I think I will concentrate on the road. I will try to cut well, I was doing it badly in the last years, I was rushing a little”. The former winner of the French Junior Cross Country Cup intends to correct his mistakes to be more consistent. “I would have liked to feel strong for a larger part of the season. There were results here and there. But I see that I am much better now, so if I continue on this momentum there is no no reasons”.
