United States: $1.15 billion offered in the lottery
In the United States, a lottery game offers a jackpot of $1.15 billion. This is the fifth largest sum in the history of the game.
For the end-of-year holidays, Mégamillions, the equivalent of the lottery in the United States, offers to win a crazy sum: 1.15 billion dollars. In stores, like in California, players are rushing to win the jackpot. Customers do not hesitate to spend hundreds of dollars to buy dozens of tickets, with the wildest dreams. Only one chance in 33 million of winning the jackpot.
This sum represents the fifth largest gain in the history of the game. $1.15 billion is the equivalent of a little more than 10 Airbus A320s, 13.5 tons of gold and for Americans in love of French gastronomy, 785.7 million baguettes. “In the United States, there is no ceiling for gambling, that’s why we arrive at astronomical sums”explains Camille Guttin, journalist France Télévision Washington.
