In total, twelve people were charged in this case, including five former municipal agents. We learned today that only four of them will be summoned to appear before the Charleroi criminal court following the examination by the Council Chamber.
The fraudulent fuel card case broke out in 2022.
It was with relative relief that Bénédicte Poll learned the news. “The aim was above all to shed light on this whole affair, to see if our suspicion of fraud was confirmed“, the mayor confided to our ACTV colleagues.
Twelve accused
Of the twelve accused, four benefited from a dismissal of the case, including the former alderman of Works, four others were sent to criminal court and four were granted a suspension of the sentence. “These are people who are not directly involved, but who were cited in the case of the grapeshot and the fuel card and possible misappropriation of equipment..”
While awaiting a criminal judgment, the municipality can already foresee compensation from the beneficiaries of a suspension of the sentence. “So there is already compensation that is requested in relation to those who have a suspension of the sentence but without referral to criminal court. And in the case of referral to criminal court, the municipality will be involved in requesting compensation.“
Note that the order of the Council Chamber can still be appealed by the different parties and the trial will take place in the coming months.
