Covid-19, teleconsultations will no longer be supported

The Ministry of Health and Social Security in Luxembourg is ending teleconsultation in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. It will expire this Sunday, June 30, 2024. It will therefore no longer be supported.

Following the sharp drop in Covid-19 casethe Luxembourg takes new measures. In just over a week, two new decisions have been taken by the Government.

Covid law extended

On June 21, the House of Representatives had decided to extend the Covid law. This had been put in place in 2020 at the time of the health crisis in order to protect the population but also businesses. It was, after a vote, extended by two years.

As a reminder, its elongation, until June 30, 2026, will make it possible to maintain and preserve the measures (wearing masks, testing in pharmacies, etc.) taken during the first epidemic, four years ago.

End of refunds

Fewer cases of Covid-19. The equation is logical. Teleconsultations will therefore no longer be supported.

The Ministry of Health and Social Security has just announced that the implementation of teleconsultation in response to the Covid-19 pandemic will expire this June 30, 2024.

This law was adopted in 2020, in the face of an unprecedented health crisis. It allowed patients to consult their doctor remotely and, above all, to be reimbursed 100% by the National Health Fund. From July 1, 2024, teleconsultation prices based on this ordinance will no longer be covered.

In a press release, Martine Deprez, Minister of Health and Social Security specified that ” (…) We recognize the commitment and professionalism of the health professionals who used this new consultation modality. However, with the improvement of the situation, it is time (…) to turn to an approach more adapted to the post-pandemic reality.”

“FLiRT”: a new virus in Europe

As a reminder, a new variant of Covid nicknamed “FLiRT”, gaining ground in Europe and its progress is closely scrutinized by the scientific community. This strain indeed seems more contagious and resistant to vaccines than the previous one, raising fears of a significant increase in cases during the summer.
