The University of Free Time (UTL) has always been one of the associations with the most members in Concarneau (Finistère). But, for this 2024-2025 school year, the statistics make the structure’s office and especially its president, Gérard Pauchet, happy.
“At the end of June, we had 460 members, currently there are 458, indicates the president. At this time of year, this is a figure we have not had since the Covid-19 crisis. We are delighted with this enthusiasm. »
This figure can also be explained by the fact that the UTL has innovated for memberships. We opened them on our site this summer. We exhibited our workshops and our outings there: we obviously liked it, it’s a big start.
In addition to numerous conferences offered at the Cac, and more marginally at Cinéville, the UTL offers workshops, which are always well attended.
Conquered members
In recent years, “musicology” and “art history” workshops have been a hit. “This season, the “art history” workshop is a victim of its success. We had around a hundred registered last year. For this start of the school year, we are more than complete with 120 participants, indicates Gérard Pauchet. We now offer two sessions on Thursdays. Our speaker, Géraldine Guérin, is unanimous. »
The cinema workshop is working well, thanks to a big name in his field, Didier Le Roux. A new feature this year: the films analyzed during screenings are seen beforehand. The “heritage” workshop continues its dynamic while those on geopolitics and literature will return in March.
There will be many outings this year, including the Folle jour de Nantes or the Christmas getaway to Landerneau. “We are happy with this start to the season, and so are the members. It’s perfect,” concludes the president.
