How are these connections distributed, and at what frequency? The interactive map below presents the foreign destinations offered from the three most accessible airports in Brittany, according to the travel season. Click on the name of one of the three cities to show or hide the corresponding destinations. The companies and frequency are specified, for each destination, when the connection schedule is available. To take into account the variety of summer destinations, this list also includes the seasonal connections effective during 2024 for Nantes and Rennes, even when no date is yet open for reservation for 2025.
From BrestSpain stands out, with six destinations, two of which are offered this winter and summer: Barcelona, Lanzarote, Tenerife, Malaga, Majorca and Menorca. Italy, Ireland, Portugal, England, Morocco and Greece complete the list, including several capitals: Rome, Dublin, Porto, Athens.
From Rennesone can fly to Marrakech, Morocco, to the English capital London, or to the Netherlands and its capital, Amsterdam, as well as to Dublin, the capital of Ireland, in summer.
From Nantesdestinations in more than 25 different countries are accessible. As with Brest, on another scale, the south of Europe appears largely on billboards: Spain, Italy, Morocco and Greece have several destination airports, particularly on the islands of these countries. Further away from summer tourism, large European cities are also accessible in several European countries and certain countries outside Europe.
An increasing number of passengers in Brest
The results of the destinations offered from western Breton airports illustrate the differences in development between these centers. Brest airport welcomed 810,796 passengers in 2023, ahead of Rennes and its 595,000 passengers, and far behind the 6.5 million travelers passed through Nantes airport.
On the development side, the differences are also marked: up sharply (+ 12%) in Nantes compared to 2022, traffic increases more reasonably (+ 1.1%) in Brest, when it decreases (-7%) in Rennes. This context fuels regular debates on the future of Rennes airport compared to that of Nantes, with certain Rennes stakeholders calling for a merger. Remember that the Breton capital is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes from Nantes or Paris by train.
Time to choose a vacation destination? Some advice is always useful: to compare the routes to choose for your vacation, you should not forget the time, cost and pollution linked to transport to get from your point of departure to your place of arrival. And as for air connections, certain destinations abroad by train are opening or preparing to do so, for the year or for summer periods.
