Covid-19: this surprising upheaval that the pandemic produced on the Moon

According to a recent scientific study, inactivity on Earth during confinement led to a drop in temperature on the Moon.

Covid-19 has had an influence on the Moon. According to a recent study published in the Proceedings of the Royal Astronomical Society of the United Kingdom, nighttime lunar surface temperatures have dropped significantly, due to reduced human activity on Earth during the lockdown. .

A previous study had demonstrated that the radiation emitted by the Earth can have a notable impact on the temperatures prevailing on the surface of our natural satellite.

The results of this work must still be confirmed

The night star lost up to two degrees Celsius during the months of April and May 2023, while 2.9 billion Earthlings were expected to stay at home, according to the Indian research team at origin of this work.

Confinement therefore resulted in a massive reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and aerosols, which release heat which is trapped and then re-emitted by the earth’s atmosphere.

“Our study reveals that changes in terrestrial radiation (TR) have a measurable influence on the lunar surface, visualized by an anomalous decrease in nighttime lunar surface temperatures between the months of April and May 2020,” explain the scientists.

The results of this work must still be confirmed, notably while awaiting the installation of observatories on the Moon.
