The rumors were correct: OpenAI raised $6.6 billion overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, bringing its valuation to 157 billion. The ChatGPT publisher benefited from a very large funding round from old and new investors. Almost two years after the launch of ChatGPT to the general public – it was November 30, 2022 – the company led by Sam Altman is in a strong position in the generative artificial intelligence (AI) market. And its director, who should receive 9% of the shares, is potentially a multi-billionaire.

If Apple, once expected, did not inject money into OpenAI, other big names got involved. Microsoft, after initially providing more than 10 billion dollars to OpenAI, has just invested 750 million. Chipmaker Nvidia injected 100 million, conglomerate Softbank 500 million, while investment company Thrive Capital provided 1.25 billion. The Emirati fund MGX also invested, for an undisclosed amount.
