Catherine Deneuve seems to have been revived since the ischemic stroke she suffered while filming in 2019. Almost six years later, the actress, however, continues to take care of her health at the age of 81. However, she had no trouble remembering the incident, which occurred in a hospital where she played the role of Crystal, the mother of a man sick with cancer, under the direction of Emmanuelle Bercot.

The star of Beautiful day then felt something was wrong. “I had hesitations about my text, memory lapses. I said it. They immediately realized that something was wrong and they reacted,” she explained in an interview with Vanity Fairpublished on January 22. The actress was then taken care of at the Rothschild hospital and at the Invalides, where certain encounters upset her.

A heartbreaking experience

“Seeing all these young men injured, amputees, these soldiers in this state…,” she recalled. There was one who was still lying on his back, on a stretcher, he could no longer walk. He had made a jump and his parachute had not opened. He looked at the sky, the dome and he smoked. He was handsome. Seeing that is difficult. »

Since then, the actress “continues to work on her memory”, as the magazine indicates, with the help of a speech therapist and her cell phone when certain information escapes her. She notes, however, that certain well-buried childhood memories have no trouble resurfacing, such as her mother's departure for the “sanatorium” when she was little. “It was horrible, she was taken away, I was looking out the window, I was seven years old, I could describe exactly that window, its size, its frame, the light, everything,” she recalled, in addition to other more cheerful memories.

Sources close to Catherine Deneuve gave her news after her incident, specifying that the latter had been “very limited and therefore reversible”, as reported by AFP, and that the actress had not suffered from “ motor deficit”. The film by Emmanuelle Bercot, During his lifetimewas finally released in 2021 after the actress returned to the film set in 2020 after a few months “off”.
