Saint-Affrique. “The people were incredibly kind”: two Aveyron residents in search of adventure in Beijing Express

the essential
Two Aveyron residents, two brothers, William and Christophe Brouzet find themselves at the heart of the show Beijing Express, broadcast every Thursday evening from 9 p.m. on M6.

“O“He found himself by chance on the Beijing Express show”laugh the two brothers after being registered on a whim by Christophe’s daughter. Reminded by the show, they initially believe it is a joke but the machine is launched. This year, the Beijing Express show is once again taking place in Africa, crossing Tanzania, Mozambique, Lesotho and South Africa. Ten pairs compete in a race through events with the aim of winning a sum of money. Christophe and William will remember their beginnings for a long time: “We started the adventure with soaked clothes, in a humid country”. Enough to get sick! But they are not at the end of their surprises.

A more than shaky English

Indeed, during their journey, communication with the populations is laborious. English is not the strong point of the Aveyron duo. Even in difficulty, they do not give up and continue to persevere. “For the accommodation, we found it straight away, despite our lack of English,” expresses the pair for whom competition is not the priority. “We did it as tourists,” declares one of the two brothers, taking the time to thank the people who came to their aid. In a show where time is crucial, is this the best strategy? For William and Christophe, recognition comes first. They salute the welcome and generosity of their hosts: “The people were incredibly kind”.

“We got lost all the time”

One thing is certain for the two Saint-Affricans, luck does not smile on them. Their strong point, “get lost all the time”jokes Christophe. The reason for this is their difficulty in making themselves understood in English? In a show where everything relies on hitchhiking and the assistance of locals, the two candidates have difficulty achieving their goals. Fortunately, they can count on their complicity, even in the hardest times.

One incident particularly marked them, the moment when they got lost in the mountain. “We got really lost. Nobody knew where we were and we missed a day of racing”says Christophe who laughs about it today. Participating in Beijing Express requires a lot of effort: “It’s physical, we suffered a lot. You have to have good physical preparation”explains William. After the broadcast of the first episode last Thursday, relatives of the participants salute their efforts and perseverance. “They said we were the best”congratulate the two brothers, not regretting having participated in this epic rich in emotions.

Viewers can follow their journey on Thursday evening on M6, at 9:10 p.m.
